It’s Friday the 18th of April, and it’s time for the cover reveal for Thief, Witch, & Liar!

They always say not to judge a book by its cover, but everyone knows that we do. And honestly, one of my favorite things about reading is collecting books with beautiful covers and spines! So naturally, planning and designing the look of my own novels has always been one of my favorite parts of publishing.
With Thief, Witch, & Liar, I wanted to convey a sense of the classic fantasy novels I grew up loving, so I took inspiration from the covers of the Dragonlance Heroes series while designing the front cover.
Another thing I wanted to keep in mind was the importance of the two central characters, Daniela and Bensiabel (more on them later!). This is a story in which both female and male leads are extremely important to the plot–so I wanted to present them both front and center for the cover. When I commissioned Shayndl, I gave her detailed descriptions of each of them–not only their physical appearance but also their personality traits–and she blew me away with the results!
Fun fact: if you’ve been keeping up with my production posts so far, you know that Thief, Witch, & Liar is based on Prunella, a fairy tale by Andrew Lang. The original tale was published in his Gray Fairy Book; hence my choice of a gray border and background color of my novel’s cover, as an homage to his original work.
Self-publishing comes with many lovely privileges and responisiblities, not the least of which is formatting your own book and making it look the way that you want it. I’ve put a good amount of time into the interior design of this project, taken a lot of advice from readers, and I’m quite happy with the way it’s turned out. Here are a few previews for you, exclusive to this blog.

I hope you’ve enjoyed this sneak peak of Thief, Witch, & Liar‘s production so far. Keep watch for future updates; there will be more in the next few weeks as we get closer to the release date on May 25th.
Until next time, my readers!
